Steve Rule – Managing Director

Steve has more than 30 years experience working in the drilling industry and major underground Mine Stabilisation Schemes. Trained as an Engineering Geologist and Mining Engineer in Colorado (1985-89), employed as a Resident Geotechnical Engineer with Arup (1990-94) on numerous Limestone Mine Infilling Contracts in the West Midlands. Engineer with M&J Drilling from 1994-1999. Consulting Geotechnical Engineer from 1999 to 2006, returned to M&J Drilling in 2007.

Steve Stanley – Plant Manager

Steve Stanley has been with M&J Drilling since 1993. He is an extremely experienced plant and hydraulic systems engineer. Since 2003 he has been our Plant Manager, responsible for all aspects of plant management and maintenance. He heads up our team of experienced plant fitters.

Scott Johnson – Construction Director

Scott has been with M&J Drilling since 2002, originally as a Project Engineer, then Contracts Manager, promoted to Associate Contracts Director in June 2019 and most recently becoming a Board Director in June 2021. He is a qualified Land Surveyor, FGS, MIMMM and IEng. Scott formerly worked with Arup (1988-2002) in the Civils and Geotechnics Departments, involved with a number of Major Civil Engineering Schemes. He is responsible for the Tendering of Projects, and the overseeing of Engineering Supervision and Programming of our various drilling and grouting operations.

Jack Cottam – Senior Project Engineer / Buyer

Jack joined M&J Drilling in January 2016 having spent the previous 3 years with Halliburton Sperry, mostly in the North Sea undertaking Drill Mudlogging. Jack has a BSc Geology degree from Plymouth University and as a Senior Project Engineer is responsible for a number of site operations and managing many of our ongoing drilling projects.

Will Woods – Project Engineer / Buyer

Will joined M&J Drilling in August 2020, initially as a Graduate Engineer, having attained his BSc Geology degree from Plymouth University in 2019. Initially as Graduate Engineer, Will rapidly gained experience working on a number of our Drilling and Grouting sites, interfacing with our Drilling Supervisors and Site Crews, and supporting our Project Team controlling day to day site operations. In August 2021 Will was promoted to the role of Junior Project Engineer and we are pleased to announce his further promotion to Project Engineer / Buyer from August 2022.

Dave Shuker – Project Engineer / Buyer

Dave joined us in April 2021 having spent over 30 years in the site investigation industry. As a Project Engineer he is responsible for the day to day running of numerous sites and drilling crews.  His responsibilities include communicating with Site Supervisors and our various Clints on a number of projects. He is also involved in data processing, ordering of materials and plant, and the preparation of completion reports.

Sue Byng – Office Manager

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Sue Byng to the role of Office Manager. Sue joined M&J Drilling in September 2007 to work as our Accounts Administrator and assist on Reception. When we moved to our current premises in 2008, Sue took over various other roles and in the intervening years has become a main point of contact in the office in relation to a number of our internal administration matters. In hand with the role of Office Manager, Sue looks after various aspect of H.R. including our Staff Training.

Jade Byng – Reception and Accounts

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Jade Byng, who following the retirement of Isabel Mason now takes on more responsibility for our Admin and Accounts. Jade joined our Office Team in September 2020 as our Accounts Technician and Receptionist and has over the past 2 years taken on more duties in Admin and Accounts.
