Steve Rule – Managing Director


Steve has more than 30 years experience working in the drilling industry and major underground Mine Stabilisation Schemes. Trained as an Engineering Geologist and Mining Engineer in Colorado (1985-89), employed as a Resident Geotechnical Engineer with Arup (1990-94) on numerous Limestone Mine Infilling Contracts in the West Midlands. Engineer with M&J Drilling from 1994-1999. Consulting Geotechnical Engineer from 1999 to 2006, returned to M&J Drilling in 2007.

Steve Brown – Plant Director (Retiring)


Steve has been an integral part of the team at M&J Drilling since its formation in 1982. Employed as Plant Manager from 1982 to 2003, and Plant Director since 2003. Responsible for Major Plant Procurement, Specialist Fabrication, Plant and Transport logistics, Building development and maintenance, Plant Safety, Development of ancillary plant for drilling and grouting operations. Since 2018 Steve has been working towards retirement, easing out of the company and only attends on a part-time basis.

Pat Murray – Contracts Director


Pat has over 30 years experience working on Civil Engineering, Drilling and Mine Stabilisation Projects. NEBOSH Qualified Health & Safety Manager (2005). Overall responsibility for the day to day management of all our drilling sites.

Steve Stanley – Plant Manager


Steve Stanley has been with M&J Drilling since 1993. He is an extremely experienced plant and hydraulic systems engineer. Since 2003 he has been our Plant Manager, responsible for all aspects of plant management and maintenance. He heads up our team of experienced plant fitters.

Scott Johnson – Associate Contracts Director


Scott has been with M&J Drilling since 2002, originally as a Project Engineer, then Contracts Manager and most recently he has been promoted to the role of Associate Contracts Director. He is a qualified Land Surveyor, FGS, MIMMM and IEng. Scott formerly worked with Arup (1988-2002) in the Civils and Geotechnics Departments, involved with a number of Major Civil Engineering Schemes. He is responsible for the Engineering Supervision and Programming of our various drilling and grouting operations.

Robert Stokes – Senior Project Engineer / Buyer


Robert joined M&J Drilling in November 2014, and is a CSM Alumnus having attained his BSc Mining Engineering Degree at the Camborne School of Mines (Exeter University). As a Senior Project Engineer, Robert handles much of the day to day buying responsibilities for our site operations as well as managing many of our ongoing drilling projects.

Jack Cottam – Senior Project Engineer


Jack joined M&J Drilling in January 2016 having spent the previous 3 years with Halliburton Sperry, mostly in the North Sea undertaking Drill Mudlogging. Jack has a BSc Geology degree from Plymouth University and as a Senior Project Engineer is responsible for a number of site operations and managing many of our ongoing drilling projects.

Will Woods – Graduate Engineer

Will joined M&J Drilling in August 2020, having attained his BSc Geology degree from Plymouth University in 2019. As a Graduate Engineer, Will is rapidly gaining experience working on a number of our Drilling and Grouting sites, interfacing with our Drilling Supervisors and Site Crews, and supporting our Project Team controlling day to day site operations.

Isabel Mason – Office Manager


Isabel has been with M&J Drilling since 1987, initially employed as our Secretary, Receptionist and Accounts Clerk, she has been the Office Manager now for a number of years and is responsible for general office administration.
